"We have now passed through the ghost town of Ballycroy and reached the
town of Palgrave. This area was surrounded by hills and swamps which delayed settlement until the 1830s. My mother took me here once when I was young and we stayed at the Western Hotel. The town was originally named Buckstown by an easy -going fellow nicknamed "Buck" who managed the hotel in 1846. The railroad built
then is still in use today. To the centre of town you see the Hamilton & North-
Western Railway which serves as a long 35km trail to the north east."
Follow this trail and meet me at the highest point of the Moraine...Mount Wolfe
There is a spectacular view of the area from the top, meet me back here when you hike down.
